Encouraging Her Potential
Carrie’s Story: Helping Women and Girls Dare to Dream
It was early morning, dark and I was scared. Through the doorway I could see my Mom sitting at the kitchen table staring out the window looking tired and sad.
Mom leaves for work and I have to get up and get Sarah and Eddie ready for school. We leave early because we get free breakfast at school.
Mom could only find regular work when the tourists were here so we live in a trailer park. I don’t like to have friends over because they will see Mom sleeping on the couch.
Things are getting better. My brother and sister and I are part of an after school program that helps us with our homework. Mom took a course at the technical college and has started a new job as a nursing assistant.
Mom says we’re going to be able to move into a small house soon. I didn’t know my Mom going to school could make such a big difference!
